Treadwell & Rollo provided geotechnical and earthquake engineering services for the seismic retrofit and replacement of Pier ½. This included the construction of new pile-supported platforms around the Ferry Building and new Ferry berth facilities. Our engineers developed seismic design criteria consisting of elastic design response spectra, provided recommendations for pile design and installation, and developed lateral load criteria for the effects of maximum credible earthquakes occurring on the San Andreas and Hayward faults.
Our team also provided geotechnical design criteria for additions to the historic Ferry Building’s Promenades. Working with the Port Structural Engineer, pile capacities, lengths and sizes were designed to incorporate existing Port structures. During construction, we provided pile installation inspection and consulted on geotechnical issues as needed.
