Completed in 2008, the 60-story South Tower of One Rincon Hill is the tallest residential building in California; the North Tower will be 47 stories when completed in 2010.  The below-grade parking required excavation up to about 60 feet deep.

Treadwell & Rollo provided geotechnical services during design and construction.  We also performed environmental services, including a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, soil investigation, and mitigation plan to evaluate and manage hazardous materials impacts.

The structure is supported on a mat foundation bearing on bedrock of the Franciscan Complex.  During basement construction, the excavation was retained by a soil-nail temporary shoring system.  Throughout excavation, our engineers observed the shoring system installation and monitored movement.  When the excavation reached the mat foundation subgrade level, we observed subgrade conditions as well as foundation and drainage installation.
